- My name is Thomas Brey, I was born in 1957 in Wuerzburg, Germany.
- I studied Zoology, Biological Oceanography, Limnology and Biochemistry in Kiel, Germany.
- Since 1989 I work at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany. I lead a working group dealing with (i) trophic relations & energy flow and (ii) with sclerochronology of molluscs. I teach at the University of Bremen and supervise Diploma, MSci and Ph.D. students.
- I cooperate with scientists from many institutions in the world, and several of these I visited for some time, e.g. University of Santa Cruz, USA; British Antarctic Survey, U.K.; Universidád de Concepción, Chile; IMAG, Punta Arenas, Chile; INIDEP, Mar del Plata, Argentina, CADIC, Ushuaia, Argentina.
- Besides science I am interested in literature (mainly history & science fiction) and music (mainly Blues & Soul, playing the Gibson once in a while).
